Aren’t there alternatives to taking anti-inflammatory medications for pain?

There certainly are.  Exercise prescribed by a Physical Therapist can help significantly to reduce many types of pain and inflammation.  For example, chronic pain in the back, shoulder, or knee, or pain associated with certain degenerative diseases such as osteoarthritis, can be reduced with the appropriate combination of medication and exercise.  Non-pharmacological approaches such as physical therapy should be considered for initial treatment for musculoskeletal symptoms that result from tendonitis/bursitis, degenerative joint problems (osteoarthritis), and inflammatory joint problems (rheumatoid arthritis).  This is especially true for someone at risk of heart disease.
