Do you need to have a referral for Physical Therapy?
This is an often asked question which has confused many people and clinicians alike. First let's cover the legal aspects of the question. It is legal in Minnesota to be seen and treated by a Physical Therapist for up to 30 days without a referral. Probably the more pertinent issue for most people involves the economic question. There are some insurance companies which require the patient to be seen by a doctor prior to initiating Physical Therapy. Having a good understanding of your insurance benefits can help to make the access of Physical Therapy more efficient. At Sport & Spine Physical Therapy we have a top notch administrative staff to help guide any new patient through the process.
